Guidelines for SCCS Junior Beta Club:

 

1. The SCCS Junior Beta Club will meet once a month before/after school, depending on planned activities.

2. The grades from which members shall be drawn are 7th and 8th.

3. The scholastic requirements for membership will be a cumulative GPA of 3.00 (GPA must be exactly 3.00 with no rounding and no grade of “C” or lower).

4. SCCS Junior Beta Club fees and National Beta dues must be paid in a timely manner.  

5. The officers to be elected for this club will be president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer.

6. A member must participate in school-sponsored community service project(s) each year to remain in the club.

7. A member must complete 20 hours of community service each school year to remain in the club. (10 hours per semester)

8. A student may be dropped from membership for the following reasons:

a. Absence without justifiable reason from two regular meetings per semester.

b. Scholastic record falls below a 3.00 average. However, no member will be dropped for scholastic deficiency without being accorded a probationary period of one nine weeks.

c. Failure to serve 10 hours of community service per semester and one service project each year.

d. For moral or disciplinary reasons.

e. For failure to pay yearly dues.

The SCCS Senior Beta Club will continue during the 2019 - 2020 school year. The scholastic requirement for membership is a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 with no grade of “C” or lower.  For high school students returning to SCCS, the 4th 9 weeks grades of the last school year and the 1st 9 weeks grades for the new school year will be used to issue invitations for new members. New SCCS students, including 9th graders, will not be invited until 2nd semester.

2. The grades from which members shall be drawn are 9th – 12th.

3. The scholastic requirements for membership will be a cumulative GPA of 3.00 (GPA must be exactly 3.00 with no rounding and no grade of “C” or lower).

4. The officers to be elected for this club will be president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and grade-level representatives.  Alternately, grade-level leaders may be appointed.

5. A member must participate in school-sponsored community service project(s) each year to remain in the club.

6. A member must complete 8 hours of community service each school year to remain in the club. Students may use the same form as for the Community Service Diploma Endorsement.

7. A student may be dropped from membership for the following reasons:

       a. Absence without justifiable reason from two regular meetings/activities. Written absence excuses must be turned in within one week of              the missed meeting/activity.

       b. Scholastic record falls below a 3.00 average. Report card grades will be checked after each 9 weeks, however, no member will be                         dropped for scholastic deficiency without being accorded a probationary period of one nine weeks.

       c. Failure to serve 8 hours of community service and one service project each year.

       d. For moral or disciplinary reasons. After suspension, the member will be placed on a probation for the remainder of high school.  A                      second suspension or expulsion will result in immediate dismissal from the club.

       e. For failure to pay yearly dues.

8.  Senior Beta members may be recognized at graduation only if the following criteria are met:

        a.  Student must have at least 2 years membership in Senior Beta.

        b. Student must be an active Senior Beta during his/her Senior year.

        c.  Student must be in good standing after final Senior grades are posted.

MEMBERSHIP Requirements

  • Yearly dues – $10 for returning members, $25 for NEW members

  • Grades – As and Bs only (no Cs or lower) – checked each 9 weeks

Probation or Dismissal letters – sent out after each grading period

  • Meetings (2 unexcused absences = dismissal)

Work excuses will be accepted for some, but not ALL meetings.

You MUST attend meetings and participate to remain a Sr. Beta member.

  • Service projects – minimum of 1 per year

  • Community Service – minimum of 8 hours per year

  • Exemplary discipline – no suspensions (1 = probation, 2 = dismissal)

  • Senior Recognition – medallion for graduation – requirements: 2 years of Sr. Beta membership, Active member senior year, Eligible for Sr. Beta after final grades are posted

  • 9/11/2019 – Regular Meeting – Fundraisers – 2018-19 Service Hours Form DUE

  • 10/1/2019 – Regular Meeting – State Convention (Planning)

  • 10/17/2019 – Meeting for new 10-12 invitees (based on grades on 1st report card)

  • 10/24/2019 – Money for new members ($25) & Convention Deposit ($50, nonrefundable) DUE

  • 11/6/2019 – Regular Meeting

  • 11/13/2019 – Beta Induction for NEW members

  • 12/4/2014 – Regular Meeting – Last day to bay Balance for State Convention (~$100 – fundraisers)

  • 1/7/2020 – REQUIRED Meeting before State Convention

  • 1/8/2020 – AFTER SCHOOL – Beta State Convention – some competitions

  • 1/9 – 1/10/2020 – Sr. Beta State Convention, Baton Rouge
