Slaughter Community Charter School is a Type 1 Charter School authorized by the East Feliciana Parish School Board.
The Type 1 designation means a local school board (East Feliciana Parish) is responsible for the authorization, oversight, and renewal of SCCS. As a Type 1 charter, SCCS also has its own school board; there are currently six board members who govern school finances, operations, and administration. SCCS has great autonomy and is accountable for improved student achievement. SCCS is a public school that is both tax-exempt and non-profit. The main source of funding for SCCS come from the state’s Minimum Foundation Program (MFP) through taxpayer dollars. All Louisiana charter schools are accountable for meeting student achievement goals, and organizational and financial performance goals, either by a local school board or by BESE using the Charter School Performance Compact. Local school boards establish charter school performance goals with each charter school board and hold schools accountable through locally-designed performance frameworks.
